Since 1973, the Volvo Ocean Race has provided the ultimate test of a team and a human adventure like no other. Over four decades it has kept an almost mythical hold over some of the greatest ever sailors – and the 2017-18 edition will take the teams 45,000 nautical miles around the world, across four oceans, touching six continents and 12 landmark Host Cities.
Three different sets of Pavilions had to be constructed for temporary built-up and dismantling at each of the 12 hosting harbours around the globe. Sustainability and the spirit of Volvo in terms of premium quality and safety had to be incorporated. The task in this tendering process was to create unique, lightweight and still premium quality temporary structures to be built in high-wind areas in a challenging timeframe.
